What do the different DNS record types mean?
A and AAAA records point your domain to IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. CNAME records alias one name to another. MX records tell the world where your email should be delivered, in priority order. NS records name the servers that answer for your zone, TXT records hold verification and email-security data such as SPF and DKIM, and the SOA record describes the zone itself.
What does TTL mean?
TTL, or time to live, is how long a resolver may cache a record before asking again, measured in seconds. A TTL of 300 means changes can take up to five minutes to reach everyone. Lower TTLs make changes faster to roll out, higher TTLs reduce lookup traffic.
Why do DNS changes take time to propagate?
Resolvers around the world cache your records for the length of the TTL. Until each cache expires, some visitors keep getting the old answer. This is why a record change can appear to work in one place and not another for a while. Lowering the TTL before a planned change shortens that window.
Can I get alerted when my DNS records change?
