Domain Expiry Checker

Look up a domain's WHOIS record and see when it expires, who the registrar is, whether the transfer lock is on, and which name servers it uses. No signup needed.

How it works

Three steps, no signup.

No cached data. Every lookup queries the registry live, the moment you ask, and reports exactly what it sends back.

01

Enter any domain

Type a domain name and run the check. We send a live WHOIS query to the registry responsible for that domain, the same record registrars read from.

02

We read the WHOIS record

The registry returns the registrar of record, the creation and expiration dates, the EPP status codes, and the name servers the domain currently points to.

03

See what matters

You get the days left until expiry, the domain's age, whether the transfer lock is on, and the full list of name servers, all in one place.

What happens when a domain expires?

Most registrars pause the domain immediately: your website and email stop working, often replaced by a parking page. A grace period usually follows where you can renew at the normal price, then a redemption period with a hefty recovery fee, and after that the domain can be auctioned or registered by anyone else.

What does transfer lock mean?

A transfer lock (an EPP status like clientTransferProhibited) tells the registry to reject transfer requests to another registrar. It is a basic anti-hijacking safeguard. You want it on for any domain you are not actively transferring, because an unlocked domain is easier to steal with a compromised registrar account.

Why do domains lapse silently?

Renewal notices go to the email address on file at the registrar, which is often an old inbox, a former employee, or a client who does not recognize the sender. Auto-renew fails quietly when a card expires. Nobody notices until the site is already down, which is why expiry needs monitoring separate from your inbox.

Can Sentinel watch my domain expiry for me?

Yes. Sentinel checks the WHOIS record for your monitored domains and alerts you well before the expiration date, so a missed renewal email never takes your site offline. Domain expiry monitoring is available on Sentinel's paid plans.

Stop checking by hand.

Sentinel watches your uptime, SSL, DNS and domains around the clock from multiple regions, and tells you the moment something needs attention.
